Shipping Containers

Shipping containers have become a huge market in recent years. You can find a box to fit almost anything perfectly with the exact amount of cushioning at a reasonable price. Today, you can even custom design boxes for whatever your needs. While you have many options when sending a product out, moving, or whatever, it’s good to keep in mind a few points about shipping containers when making a decision on which to use.
Cardboard or corrugated boxes are an obvious choice. They’re a cheap, light, and sturdy. They’re usually collapsible as well, which makes them a good choice if you’re running an office so that you can keep a lot on hand without taking up to much space. Corrugated boxes are constructed with air between their inner and outer layers, so you can have a bit of cushion when it goes through the mail and gets tossed around a bit. They will of course need a bit of extra tapping, but the price is already low enough that this expense is negligible. Boxes like these can be purchased in bundles, saving you more money. And of course, they come in nearly every size and shape, so whatever you need shipped can be shipped.
Many companies sell pre-built boxes to conveniently ship through their routes. These are usually cheap and durable, and if you have a regular business relationship with UPS, FedEx, or USPS, they may be a good choice to keep around.
Plastic boxes are another option. Avoiding the one serious hazard of cardboard and corrugated boxes – moisture – these can make sure your stuff goes where it needs to be and ends up there in one piece. Plastic boxes are much stronger and don’t tear; they are also resistance to most minor impacts. Many models also snap shut or seal tightly. This keeps out moisture and unlike taped boxes means that the box won’t tear open and spill its contents. These boxes are also reusable so if you are shipping stuff during a move or to a regular client, they are great way to keep costs down. However, they are more expensive to purchase, but they make up for it by lasting for many trips.
Cost and need are perhaps the biggest concerns when deciding on shipping containers. Stuff that is shipped once and isn’t very valuable would probably benefit from being sent in a cardboard or corrugated box. However, more expensive or fragile objects deserve to be protected are worth the extra investment of a plastic box or other customized option.
